The Spirit RT is like an old school SRT4. It’s equally awesome and lame. This one looks like it’s been sitting for awhile. So would you buy it or stay the hell away?

Also check out this GLH which I’d sat is a real CP.

I would snatch up that Spirit R/T, and push the GLH away with a long stick.

I’ll take the Spirit. In it’s day it was quicker than an E28 M5.

As a Turbo Moparite I gotta say those are a couple of great finds!
The Spirit isn’t too far off. Someone may want to tell the seller to inflate the tires though.. You know, make it look a bit less abandoned.
That Omni though! Jesus Chrysler Plymouth!
That is off the charts batshit CP on Bath Salts! At $7500 you’re creeping into GLHS territory. Hell No!

Agreed. 2400 is a steal BUT confirm that the head has good compression first. A friend of mine eats these cars up for his collection/racing needs and says that this is a common “ran when parked” reason. Don’t know why, but bring a compression tester to be safe.

I'd buy the spirit

Well the rt is non interference and with a fresh head gasket and timing belt I'd say it was rock solid given the new clutch and all.

MyDaytona IROC RT is still looking for a donor. Hmmm...

my dad had one of those for about 20 years (1991-2011.) They eat head gaskets and timing belts like popcorn. You can’t get the OE head gasket anymore. However, Cometic makes a multi-layer-steel (MLS) head gasket for ~$100 which will probably last forever.
there’s nothing you can do about the short timing belt life. The valvetrain design is such that there’s the possibility of cam timing “wander” from the belt “flapping” between the camshafts, and since the 2.2 engine block wasn’t modified, the only solution they had was to crank up the belt tension. it really needed a second idler pulley, but there was no provision for in in the block casting. At most, you’ll get 30,000 miles out of a belt. It’s pretty telling that on most other cars, timing belts fail when the crank sprocket shears off a bunch of teeth when you go to start the car. On the 2.2 Turbo III, the timing belt always snaps.
oh, and the shifter linkage feels like it’s connected to the trans via rubber bands. in terms of reliability and shifter feel, my SRT-4 was a fucking Honda in comparison.

head gaskets last about 25-30,000 miles on these, at least if you use the OE-style graphite ones. Buy a Cometic MLS head gasket and you’ll probably never have to do it again.

I walk that back- I don’t think Cometic makes a head gasket for the Turbo III anymore. I don’t know if it can take a standard 2.2 common block gasket.
